US$ 2.4 billion in the acquisition of Alphawave to enhance the technology layout of AI and high-speed connectivity

According to Reuters, Qualcomm entered into an acquisition agreement for the British semiconductor Alphawave IP Group through its wholly owned subsidiary, Aqua Acquisation SubLLC, with a total value of approximately $2.4 billion, with an equal value of $2.4 billion.

According to market information, on 1 April 2025, he expressed his intention to acquire Alphawave and to finalize the terms of the deal on 9 June. Chase indicated that the acquisition was aimed at integrating Alphavave ‘ s high-speed connection technology, combining it with its chip design capacity and enhancing competitiveness in the areas of AI data centre, 5G/6G communications and auto-driving.

Under the terms of the agreement, the shareholders in Alphawave would be settled in cash of $2.48 per share, which is approximately 96 per cent higher than the company ‘ s recent closing premium. The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, subject to the approval of shareholders and regulators.

Alphawave IP Group, a semiconductor technology company based in London, United Kingdom, focuses on high-speed data transmission and connection IP solutions. Its core products include high-speed SerDes and PCIE technologies, which are widely used in AI data centres, cloud computing and high performance computing (HPC). Alphawave ‘ s clients include the world ‘ s leading technology firms, such as Samsung and Radio Accumulation, which support the transfer of hundreds of Gbps data per second, a key infrastructure for AI training and reasoning.

Market data show that in 2024, Alphawave earned about $320 million and is expected to grow to $500 million in 2025. The acquisition will further strengthen the position of Chase in the AI chip market, with its revenue of $39 billion for fiscal year 2024 and a rapidly growing share of AI-related business. However, the semiconductor sector is highly competitive, and Yveida and AMD are also taking over the technology-connected market through acquisitions, and Chase needs to rapidly integrate Alphawave to maintain its competitive advantage.

The acquisition of Alphawave by Takatung is a key step in its AI strategy. Alphawave ‘ s high-speed connectivity technology will enhance the layout of Chase in the areas of AI data centres and 6G communications, especially in peripheral AI and auto-driving applications. The Project integrates Alphawave technology into its “silon” platform and develops more efficient AI chips to meet data centres and mobile equipment needs.
